In angling, letting the bait or lure bob lightly and repetitively down onto the water surface in the manner of certain behaviour patterns of gracile flying insects such as craneflies, mayflies, caddisflies and others.
This 50m spool of dapping floss is the essential material to rig for dapping - a technique where a fly is "dapped" rather than cast: repeatedly placed on the surface of the water without the line touching the water. The dapping floss acts as a sail to to gently lift and add activity to the fly. Put a big bushy fly on the end of a strong leader - it doesn't matter how thick since the fish will never see it, then a length of dapping floss, then a line back to a long and stiff rod more like a pole than a salmon rod. Keep the dapping floss out of the water!
