This special kit contains three 10g packs of the fundamental dyes used in all "Flu" colours. By mixing in appropriate proportion, nearly all of the popular Flu colours can be created.
Silver Creek fly tying dye is ideal for colourfast dying of natural fur and feathers that are used as the raw materials for tying specialist flies. Silver Creek package the dye stock used by Ultimate Fishing Supplies' industrial batch dye shop to create products for brands like Durham Ranger, Gordon Griffiths and Veniard in smaller quantities for 'domestic' use. These dyes are full industrial strength and will seem very powerful to the domestic user: you can create some intense colours in appropriate substrates, and more subtle natural shades when used sparingly. An instruction sheet is provided with each package with some advice on how to get started.
This dye is flat packed to reduce postage costs; please transfer to an air tight, waterproof container for storage when you receive it. There is enough dye in one flat-pack for several dye runs.
Please note that when dying natural materials that uptake rates are unpredictable; a skilled technician can match colours batch for batch including accounting for how much lighter a feather shade will become when dried - new users will need to practise the art to give reliable, repeatable results. The colour swatches on this listing are the results of using these dyes on bleached short cock hackle as manufactured and supplied to Gordon Griffiths and Veniard; results vary on other materials and with factors such as: different times in the dye bath, temperatures, pigment concentrations employed, the acidity of the process and the residual level of natural oils and greases in the substrate after degreasing and prior to dying, these being just a few of many other process factors to consider. Colour swatches can only ever be a rough approximation of likely results, and with increasing skill and practise, other shades can be achieved by the home practitioner.
