Ostrich Struthio camelus
The Barred Long Ostrich (BDLO) is a piece of Ostrich plume selected for its long herl and then marked along its length with black barring.
These plumes are great for adding extra movement to wet and dry Trout flies and Salmon flies. The barring on these Ostrich herls will provide a nice effect on traditional flies and can be used on a variety of other patterns to help to bring your flies to life. They are used for streamer patterns but most commonly as fluffy bodies and tails on Nymphs. Common flies that use the Ostrich herl is Iven's Green and Brown Nymph, Heptagenid Stone Fly Nymph and the Ostrich Herl Scud.
There is one Ostrich Plume provided per pack and although they vary in length due to natural differences between the birds, they average at around 18.5cm in length.
